The City of Olathe provides several housing programs to eligible homeowners including the Deferred Loan Program which is designed to address current building code violations, upgrade major systems and utilize energy-related improvements, the Emergency Repair Program is for repairs that affect health and safety, the Exterior Maintenance Program assists homeowners who are financially unable to make the necessary repairs after being cited with a code violation; Elderly Homeowner Assistance for general maintenance and a Handicap Accessibility Program designed to eliminate barriers in the home.

The program addresses repairs that, if left unattended, would have a direct impact on the health, safety or accessibility of the homeowner. This does not include repair of appliances or exterior maintenance such as yard work. May include exterior painting if there is a code violation or city citation. Included are electrical & plumbing repairs.
RCIL offers the Build-A-Ramp program. RCIL utilizes donated materials and volunteer workers when available, an repairs existing ramps or constructs new ramps that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Metro Lutheran Ministry is providing minor home repair to homeowners 65+ and those with disabilities. They provide home assessments, repair estimates, and repairs to allow seniors and persons with disabilities to remain in their homes. The focus is on repairs that increase security and safety like wheelchair ramps, widening doorways, and installation of safety rails. Weatherization and LED bulb kits may also be available, pending funding availability.

RTKC provides home repairs, including building or repairing wheelchair ramps.
RTCC provides essential home repairs and safety modifications like installing grab bars, handrails, taller toilets, bathroom assistive devices, accessible showers, modified steps, and wheelchair ramps
The NNI Home Repair Program helps low- to moderate-income homeowners with much needed repairs. Repairs NNI provides include: code violation remediation, roof replacement, plumbing and electrical repairs, repair of steps and walkways that pose a tripping or fall hazard, and exterior painting. Program based on funding availability, there may be a wait list.
The Minor Home Repair program can help with small projects (1-2 hours) with materials paid for by the client. Examples of minor repairs include electrical (replace switches, sockets, plugs on cords, light bulbs; change fuses), plumbing (repair leaky faucets, shower heads, replace flapper valve on toilet, no drain work), carpentry (step repair, trim doors, repair door catches, cabinets, hinges; replace screens), replace furnace filters, evaluate concrete work, install weather stripping, smoke detectors, repair/replace locks. Referrals will be made for larger jobs.
Habitat KC ReStores accept donations of gently used furniture, working appliances or building supplies. Offers free donations pick up and deconstruction services..

The Older Adult Handyman program makes safety-related repairs such as air conditioning and furnace repair, grab bars and hand rail installation, along with other tripping and fall hazard repairs.
Provide needed home repair assistance to homeowners who lack the skills or resources necessary to undertake the repairs themselves; these homeowners include the elderly, the disabled, and veterans.
Provides grants for ramp construction to make homes accessible.
Provide low interest loans or deferred payment loans to individuals over 62 years of age or disablede for home repairs and rehabilitation. Also provide regular loans for other individuals who meet the criteria of the program.

This is a membership based program that provides minor home repair and chores, computer trouble shooting, an annual home safety assessment, information and referral and social and educational opportunities to help older adults maintain their independence at home. Minor home repairs include fixing toilets, replacing thermostats, cleaning dryer vents, adding weather stripping, cleaning gutters, replacing batteries in smoke detectors, and installing grab bars or handrails.
