Families falling behind on mortgage payments can speak with a housing counselor. They will discuss methods to stop foreclosure, including loan modification, forbearance plans, or other programs to allow the family to remain in the home and catch up missed payments. This is not a rent assistance helpline.

Certified foreclosure prevention/ loss mitigation counselors provide assistance to homeowners experiencing default or imminent danger of default. Includes intake, assessment, establishing a budget, providing action plan, submission of documents to servicer, review & explanation of outcome.

To begin the process, fill out our eligibility form to see if you are qualified to receive an application. Once accepted into our program, you will begin one-on-one homeownership counseling and our pre-purchase education. In this phase, you’ll build savings, reduce debt and work toward mortgage readiness. After completing counseling, you will be ready to get pre-approved for a mortgage to purchase your new home. This might mean buying a home built or renovated by Habitat KC, or buying a home on the open market. Either way, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Build WyCo is a HUD Certified Housing Counselor offering monthly Homebuyer Education courses. The courses cover budgeting and credit basics, types of financing programs available, securing a mortgage loan, shopping for a home, and finance management. Upon completion of the course, individuals receive an official “Certificate of Completion.” This may be used for down payment assistance when purchasing a home. The certificate is valid for one year from the date of class completion.

Provides counseling and advice for victims of a disaster who need assistance with insurance claims, landlord/tenant issues, mortgage/foreclosure issues, home repair contracts and contractors, replacement of wills and other legal documents destroyed in the disaster.

Free STD, HIV, and Hepatitis C testing is available both at the Rain office and through outreach events in the community. Pre- and post-test counseling, including prevention education, discussions of risk reduction methods, and referrals to needed services occur each at testing session. Community members who choose not to get tested can still access information and referrals.
