Programs that provide information about the impact a shutdown of the government will have on government workers including answers to questions about the status of their health, dental and vision insurance coverage during the shutdown, when and how they will be paid, what will happen to their "use it or lose it" leave, and whether they will continue to accrue vacation and sick leave throughout the duration. Information about public access to government services and facilities, including government offices, museums, national parks and other recreation areas, may also be provided. In United States politics, a government shutdown occurs when Congress fails to pass sufficient appropriation bills or continuing resolutions to fund federal government operations and agencies, or when the President refuses to sign such bills or resolutions into law. The Antideficiency Act requires that the federal government begin a "shutdown" of the affected activities involving the furlough of non-essential personnel and curtailment of agency activities and services. Essential employees are still required to work without pay until the government reopens, when they may then receive back pay.
