The HCV Homeownership program is designed to assist low-income homebuyers in purchasing a home. Instead of using voucher subsidy to help with the cost of rent, the homeownership options allows qualified homebuyers use voucher subsidy to pay a portion of monthly mortgage payments.

Build WyCo is a HUD Certified Housing Counselor offering monthly Homebuyer Education courses. The courses cover budgeting and credit basics, types of financing programs available, securing a mortgage loan, shopping for a home, and finance management. Upon completion of the course, individuals receive an official “Certificate of Completion.” This may be used for down payment assistance when purchasing a home. The certificate is valid for one year from the date of class completion.

To begin the process, fill out our eligibility form to see if you are qualified to receive an application. Once accepted into our program, you will begin one-on-one homeownership counseling and our pre-purchase education. In this phase, you’ll build savings, reduce debt and work toward mortgage readiness. After completing counseling, you will be ready to get pre-approved for a mortgage to purchase your new home. This might mean buying a home built or renovated by Habitat KC, or buying a home on the open market. Either way, we’ll be there every step of the way.
