River of Refuge transitions homeless families with jobs from motels, shelters, and other unsuitable living conditions into permanent housing. They provide lodging and services for the working poor, providing them with a direct alternative to pay-by-the-week living arrangements and giving them the opportunity to receive resources needed to be successful in permanent housing.

Application process

Fill out the application from the website, then call and check in weekly via voicemail to stay on the wait list. Wait list is an average of 6-12 weeks long.

Fee

$100 deposit to cover any damages. Will be returned if unit is left cleaned and in good condition. Deposit can be made in installments if necessary.

Eligibility

Families with at least once child school aged or younger, can be a pregnant woman, single parent or a couple; employed full-time (at least 35 hours per week) prior to entering program; no use of alcohol or illegal/mood altering drug or substance

River of Refuge is a nonprofit Kansas-City based organization which transitions homeless families with jobs from high-rent motels, shelters, and other unsuitable living conditions into permanent housing. They provide lodging and services for the working poor, providing them with a direct alternative to pay-by-the-week living arrangements and giving them the opportunity to receive resources needed to be successful in permanent housing. To be eligible for the program, adults in the home must be working full-time prior to entering the program, there must be school-aged children or younger in the home, and there can be no use of alcohol or illegal/mood altering drug or substance.
