Safe Havens for Abandoned Newborns | Johnson County, KS Dept of Health and Environment - Olathe Walk-in Health Clinic

This health department is a safe haven for persons wishing to legally surrender physical custody of their infant. A parent or other person having lawful custody of an infant may leave the infant (without fear of prosecution) in the hands of staff. A parent will not be prosecuted for leaving their newborn at a safe haven if they follow the laws, assuming the child is under 45 days old and shows no signs of abuse or neglect.

JCDHE provides health services to prevent disease and promote wellness within the community. They offer reproductive health services, immunizations, and outreach nurse services; have WIC offices; and offers public health emergency planning, disease surveillance and health education. JCDHE also offers evnironmental services that includes inspection of solid waste management facilites, on-site septic systems and commercially operated pools. JCDHE educates on recycling and waste reduction and ensures compliance with state air quality regulations.
