Eligibility

You may be eligible for assistance if you A) Are responsible for paying the utilities for your home; B) Are a Missouri resident; C) Are a US citizen (or have been legally admitted for permanent residence); D) Have $3,000 or less in your bank accounts, retirement accounts, or investments; E) Meet the income guidelines of less than 60% of the State median income.

Required documents

Proof of social security number for everyone in the household (social security card, assistance award letter, W-2) income records, copies of utility/heating fuel bills for main and secondary sources (gas & electric, etc) including any disconnect notices if applicable

Application process

Applications can be completed and submitted online at mydss.mo.gov/utility-assistance/liheap or submit application by mail, email, or drop off completed information in the drop box outside the office. Call to request an application be mailed to you. Office is not open for public entry. Application is available on website and outside the office however applications cannot be completed on site. Clients will be notified by mail when payments have been approved or if additional information is needed.
